Flowl

A little tiny collage I made with some scraps I cut out but never used yesterday in class.  That owl is lookin' pretty surprised at whatever he found when he popped his head out of those flowers.  Maybe he is amazed at the future of my yet-to-be-finished life drawing homework, "Good Heavens.. it's a masterpiece!".  Let's hope so.  I am doing everything I can not to work on it.  Three life size arms?  I'd rather be looking for internships, finding a better job or looking for a new apartment!  Life is kicking my patoot this week.

On a brighter note!  The critique for those angry cards was yesterday... I don't think I could've hoped for a better one!  Of course there were some tiny pieces of advice, but nothing truly negative.  Yay! It got a lot of comparisons to Calvin and Hobbes, I see it... the striped shirt, the plush filled best friend.  My teacher said they looked professional enough to send to a magazine for some feedback... as the great hibachi chef Ralph would say, "Woop woop".

Lovey

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  I hope your day was cozy.. I got to take a 3 hour nap (... what a treat!) and tonight I'll be watching, Shopgirl, my favorite love movie with my favorite guy.

Collage #2

Cutting out pea-sized pieces of paper is surprisingly relaxing.  Who knew?  I was more nervous that I was breathing heavy like a cavewoman, a problem I have when I work with headphones on and am concentrating on something so small.  Embarrassing and strange, but at least I had a table to myself (hahaaaa).

I'm not sure sure about that tree in the middle of the bottom half.  There was a seam I wanted to cover, but it's lookin' a little funky.  The majority of the collage was made with Aubrey Beardsley images.  His stuff is so wonderful... Strange, creepy, silly and beautiful.  I left the genital trees and naked elves out of this one, I'll leave those for a different project (...maybe).

This collage was a little more personal than the last, I used a photo taken by my friend Steph with my friend Anna in it.  I think it fits, and I love them both so it makes it a bit sweeter!

A Bedtime Story

Lately I've been a little overwhelmed with school projects (in a good, productive kind of way...) so I haven't had much time for non-scholarly things.  This poor little neglected blog has been empty for about a week, so... in lieu of something new (whoa! rhyme time) I decided to post something old that I did last year while I was still going to school in Cleveland.

I am not afraid to say that there is a lot of work that I did in the past that I would rather pretend I never made (I'm looking at you foundation year), and a lot of times I forget that I made certain things at all.  I was going through some folders on my computer yesterday looking for something to post and found this little narrative.  I always really liked it.  I think I forget sometimes to look back and be encouraged by myself to keep making things that I love, instead of just making to get an assignment completed.  It's good to look back at work and feel content with it, it's all the more encouraging to keep aiming for that feeling with everything that I make.

I get contemplative when I'm tired... and cuddly.  What I wouldn't do for a warm puppy right now.
